A LACQUERED POTTERY FIGURE OF THE RECLINING BUDDHA, 17th – 18th CENTURYThailand, late Ayutthaya period. Modeled lying on a rectangular platform, dressed in a simple robe, the right hand supporting the head, the face bearing a subtle smile, flanked by pendulous earlobes, the hair formed into tight spikes surmounted by a gilded metal ushnisha. Overall lacquered in brown tones and gold, the details of the robe lacquered red. Condition: With wear, breakages and repairs, minor losses, the lacquer crackled and with few small flakes.
