A RATTANAKOSIN SILVER REPOUSSE FIGURE OF A ‘WALKING BUDDHA’Thailand, 18th - 19th century. Cast as the walking Buddha, the left hand raised in abhaya mudra, the right elegantly lowered at the side, wearing a long samghati robe, covering his left shoulder. The face showing a serene expression with downcast eyes below elegantly arched brows, flanked by elongated earlobes, his hair tightly curled rising to a domed ushnisha with flame. Condition: Fine condition with traces of wear and age, some casting flaws, few nicks and dents, and a crack to the right leg. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
