A JIZHOU TORTOISESHELL-GLAZED TEA BOWL, SOUTHERN SONG DYNASTY
China, 1127-1279. The slightly curving sides flare out from a tapered foot and rise to a rounded rim. The bowl is covered overall in a deep brown glaze irregularly splashed on the interior with a light caramel tone in imitation of tortoiseshell. The base is unglazed, revealing the buff body.

From a private estate in Yorkshire, United Kingdom.

Condition:
Very good condition, commensurate with age, with minor old wear. Some firring irregularities, kiln grit, pitting, small chips with associated old fills, and minor pitting.
