A substantial bronze mortar comprising a tubular body with two flanges to the rim and domed base, the sidewall with radiating domed bosses, vertical crouching beasts and bull-head studs with slot to the rear. 1.7 kg, 14cm width (5 1/2"). Property of a London gentleman; from his father's collection formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s. Fine condition.
