A two-edged iron sword with slender, lentoid-section tapering blade of piled construction with square shoulder, square-section crossguard with gentle curve, rectangular-section tang and faceted pommel of Type II. Cf. Oakeshott, E. Records of the Medieval Sword, Woodbridge, 1991, item XIIa.4. 1.3 kg, 125cm (49 1/4"). From an important English collection; acquired in the 1990s. The blade is remarkably slender and insubstantial in relation to the weighty pommel, while the tang is exceptionally thick for a blade of this size. Fine condition.
