A large two-hand sword, Brunswick, circa 1580 Sturdy, double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section. Several offset fullers, a fleur-de-lys struck at the root, below which the inscription "IN TOLETO". The long ricasso finely engraved with decorative tendrils, the lateral, split guards in the shape of bird's heads. The extended quillons with broad, coiled ends. The guard rings on both sides entwined around the guard plates. Finely engraved embellishment, a lion's head on each of the guard rings, the finger rests in the shape of bird's heads. Stepped grip with original velvet cover under a reticular weave of iron wire (slightly damaged). Typical, hollow-wrought fishtail pommel (slightly loose). Length 182 cm.Condition: II +
