AN OUTSTANDING AND LARGE PAIR OF FAMILLE ROSE 'BIRDS ON BRANCHES' BALUSTER JARS AND COVERS Qianlong period, circa 1740 Of robust baluster shape, with wide rounded shoulders below a short very slightly waisted neck, the domed cover with a wide rim and large bud-shaped knop, the body painted with two large twelve-lobed cartouches equally spaced to either side of the wide body, both painted with a pair of birds, probably crested Myna birds, one in the branches of a magnolia, the other flying nearby above richly delineated iron-red and gilt and rose-enameled peony heads, the cartouches reserved against a backdrop of branches of primarily peony but including chrysanthemum and prunus, the shoulders with alternate multi cell pattern ruyi-shaped lappets of pink, turquoise and iron-red with gilt, a turquoise cell band at the very slightly spreading foot with wide ruyi-shaped panels with vessels and objects, the covers with futher floral sprays and a lotus bud knop. 26in (66cm) high (2).
