Description: Blade: Japan, Edo period Elegant shobu-tsukuri form with iorimune, suguha-hamon. The tang (nakago) ubu has a mekugi-ana, the tip kurijiri, and the yasurime (filing marks) kattesagari to kiri. Mountings: Japan, 18th to 19th century, tsuba possibly older Red lacquer saya with irregular black speckling. Kozuka missing, its sheath, however, features a combed wave pattern and is gilded. The oval, iron tsuba has two hitsu and cloud-spiral relief on both sides. Possibly signed, but no longer clearly recognizable, possibly masahisa, a noted master. Smooth shakudo fuchi and kashira, the kashira openwork. The handle is made of very fine same-nuri. The menuki are kiku blossoms (chrysanthemums) and also serve to secure the handle. Condition: With a very small fissure on the blade and minimal chips on the sheath. Otherwise in good condition Provenance: From a Hungarian private collection
