Neolithic Period Yangshao Culture (5000-3000 BC) Blackware Li Tripod Warming Vessel - This stunning and ultra rare find is a Neolithic, Yangshao culture blackware Li, or tripod warming vessel. These vessels were used in ritual practice and were also used as warming vessels. These Li vessels have great significance, as these were the first vessels created with the technological innovation of hollow legs, and could be placed directly in a fire without fear of cracking. They were placed directly into the fire so that their contents could be heated and cooked more economically than in earlier vessels. This spectacular piece was originally escavated in Shandong Province, Northern China, and was purchased by our client in 1969 as a deaccessioned piece from The Field Museum in Chicago, Ilinois. The piece measures 9.75"H x 6"W x 6"D, and is in stunning condition for its age. Please note: the piece has Field repairs near the shoulder area that are nearly undetectable, please see photos.
