A Satsuma dish By Suizan, Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th century Decorated in enamels and gilt, the centre with a large square panel enclosing women and children gathered at a thatched house on a lakeshore, a young girl seated at the edge of the veranda conversing with a female servant, a tenugui (hand towel) hung above them, the oldest woman of the group admiring the flowering irises in the foreground with her grandchildren, all reserved on a dense ground of brocade, chrysanthemums, and prunus; signed on the base with a large seal Suizan beneath the Satsuma mon (crest). 25.1cm (9 7/8in) diam. 注脚 Provenance: An English private collection acquired mainly during the 1960s and 1970s.
