A Chinese biscuit porcelain famille verte 'Li Bai' water pot, Kangxi period, modelled as the drunken poet Li Bai dressed in yellow robes, reclining against a large green-glazed wine jar, 15.5cm long清康熙 素三彩李白醉酒水盂Note: Li Bai (701-762) was a Tang dynasty poet, acclaimed both during his life and in the present day as supremely skilled poet, and his poems were models for celebrating the pleasures of friendship, the depth of nature, solitude, and, of course, the joys of drinking wine. Along with his friend Du Fu (712-770), the pair were at the forefront at what is now regarded as the 'Golden Age of Chinese Poetry'.c.f. A similar Kangxi period water pot, in the same pose but painted in a different pattern, is in the collection at the Victoria & Albert Museum, C.1050-1917. 品相報告 Condition Report: Professional restoration present. A surface crack running from the front of the water pot and down across the base of the pot. Restoration to one of the feet, and to the end of his robe and foot.
