Viceregal frame; Bolivia or Colombia; 17th century. Carved and gilded wood. It shows wear in the gold. Measurements: 171 x 121 cm; 112,5 x 86,5 cm (light). Viceroyalty-era frame with a gilded finish and rich ornamentation on the wooden surface. The piece is notable for the large pediment-like crest at the top, where two carved flowers can be seen on each of the sides. The main area of the frame s structure has a design based on geometric motifs, which are interrupted at the corners where a flower can be seen in each of them. Finally, the piece ends at the outer perimeter, which is also decorated with geometric elements. Viceregal craftsmanship would reach very high levels of finesse and quality worthy of European works. Western tradition was combined with the cultural roots and inheritance of the places of work where the craftsmen displayed great talent both in the execution of the works and in the creation of particularly novel and original models and decorations.
