Distemper on cloth, cut and mounted in a wooden frame. Tibet, 18th/19thcentury
Central depiction of the White Tara seated with crossed legs in padmasana on a white lotus throne with large blue and white halo. The head framed with an additional greenish halo. Third eye on the forehead and adorned with elaborate jewelry and lustrous silk garments. Her lowered right hand performing the varadamudra and the raised left hand holding a padma (lotus flower). The central figure of the White Tara is surrounded by multitude of emanations of the goddess, arranged in multiple registers and forming a dense geometrical pattern on a blue background.
