A PAIR OF FINE BOXWOOD ‘BUDDHIST LION’ CARVINGS, QINGChina, late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). Each boldly carved seated, with a fierce expression, the mouth agape grasping a ribbon, the wild mane, bushy tail, and fur finely incised. One having its forepaw resting against a ball, the other placing one paw on its young. Both set on modern bases. Condition: Good condition with wear, minor losses, and age cracks. One with touch-ups. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above.
