A BURMESE ´MONK´ BOWL WITH COVERNorth Thailand/ Burma, 20th century. Crafted from clay and coated in black. The bowl rising from a high spreading foot to a slightly flaring rim, the interior set with a small plaque decorated in relief with a monk, the domed cover surmounted by a seated monk holding a spherical object in his lap. Condition: Good condition with traces of use and wear, minor nicks here and there. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
