Chinese Ming Dynasty Period, blue & white dragon motif porcelain octagonal plant pot. The Porcelain potted in octagonal plant pot shape, sturdily in octagonal straight body, thick potted, deep curvature, slight tall and gentle upward to wide straight mouth rim, raised on short flaring flat octagonal foot base, and slight concave footing. All reserved hand painted ornamentations are rendered in turquoise under glazed base color which contrast against the cobalt blue fine color. The main body decorated in five claws imperial dragon soaring amidst flames and vapors, with face and upper right appendage outstretched toward the heavens. Vigorous dragons chasing flaming pearl amidst flames against cobalt blue color scrolling cumulus clouds. The backdrop depicts swirling wind and fire painted atop a beautiful white under glaze, on each side. The upper mouth rim festooned with geometric pattern, and scrolling foliage, flowers blooms on the foot base rim. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme groundand dark grayish brown spotted firing marks and edge-cut foot rim.
