Sheet bronze. Cast, cut and incised. Original glass pearls.. China, 19th century or a bit earlier
The suspension designed as a group of acanthus leaves holding a lotus flower from which five strands of peony flowers emerge, each connected by a string of glass pearls and whit a bell suspended at their lower end. In total, there 5 smaller and one larger bell. Their sound is characteristic and well-remembered by anyone who has ever visited a Buddhist temple.
Shape: Suspended by a massive chain, which likely is a later addition
Dimensions: Height (not including the chain) 56 cm.
Condition: Excellent condition, very rare to find in complete and working order, extensive age patina, some very minor parts may be missing here and there
Provenance/labels: Austrian private collection.
