Silk with silk threads on linen body, with woven application borders, inside with silk lining. China, late Qing Dynasty

This Ma Mian Qun skirt (= horse face skirt) shows finely embroidered floral patterns in various shades of blue threads on a red colored silk background. Black silk rims frame the depictions and woven borders give further accentuations. At the waist a broad blue linen border, matching the inner blue silk cover, rounds off the look.

Condition: Good condition with minor fading, some discolorations and some open stitches, loose threads, very few small tears
