A BURMESE SILVER FOIL FIGURE OF A BUDDHA, SHAN STATEBurma / Myanmar, c. 18th century or ealier. Seated in virasana on an elaborate stepped base decorated with geometric designs, his hands in bhumisparsa mudra, the left resting in his lap, wearing a samghati draped over the left shoulder, boasting a friendly facial expression, with slender lips forming a subtle smile, and surmounted by a conical ushnisha. Earthen core still in place. Condition: Surface wear, losses to the foil, manufacturing flaws, nicks, denting, and with three apertures to the back of the buddha. The ushnisha appears to be replacement. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above.
