A SHEET GOLD PLAQUE INCISED WITH A TURTLE, PRE-ANGKOR PERIODCambodia, late 6th to early 8th century. The gold sheet of square form and incised with a birds-eye view of a turtle, the caparison with a grid pattern. Alloy composition analysis: Gold 20 karat. The sheet was tested by the Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Condition: Good condition with some minor bending and tears, few miniscule losses, and traces of age and wear. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
