A CHAM GOLD REPOUSSÉ PLAQUE OF A BODHISATTVAVietnam, former kingdoms of Champa, circa 6th to 8th century. Of rectangular form, depicting a bodhisattva seated on a lotus pedestal, wearing a crown or tiara. The head backed by a halo. Alloy composition analysis: Gold 17 karat. The plaque was tested by the Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Condition: Good condition with some minor bending and tears, traces of age and wear. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
