A BUST OF VAIKUNTHA VISHNUIndia, late 19th century to first half of the 20th century. The bust made of very heavy stone composition, being molded, carved, and coated with a maroon varnish in places. The round face finely carved with almond shaped eyes below gently arched eyebrows, the forehead centered with a third eye, the head surmounted by a tall crown and bejeweled with beaded pendants and an armlet, backed by a halo. The principal head flanked by a lion respectively a boar head. Comes with a recent metal base. Condition: Good condition with wear, minor losses, encrustations, nicks, and scratches. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
