Louis Paul Dessar, NA (1867-1952) Oxen Drawn Cart oil on board, 11 x 14, signed lower right, Sold to benefit a Southern Institution. Dessars contemporaries called him the Millet of America. He was a Barbizon tonalist painter of landscapes with workers and animals who sought the perfect combination of light and color. Studied: National Academy of Design, also with Bouguereau; Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Member: National Academy of Design in 1906 and taught there in 1946; Society of American Artists; Salmagundi Club. Exhibited: National Academy of Design, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Art Institute of Chicago and Corcoran Gallery; Paris Salon. Taught: National Academy of Fine Arts in 1946.
