Porcelain with Sancai glaze. China, Qing Dynasty (1644-1911)
This corresponding pair of porcelain figures shows a Qilin each. The mythical creature in an attentive posture and with open mouth. The Sancai glaze rounds off the archaic look of the sculptures. Sancai (translated: ‘three colours’) is a lead-glazing technique, usually consisting of three different colours, which developed in China during the Tang Dynasty (618-907).
