Ink and color on silk, with silk brocade mounting. China, 20th century

Finely painted depiction of a Christian subject in typical Chinese style. In a magnificent landscape setting with mountains, waterfalls and various plants, we see the ‘good Samaritan’ taking care of an exhausted wayfaring man. A donkey is curiously watching the scene whilst two other wayfarers can be seen walking away from the group. The artwork is inscribed in Chinese on the lower right side ‘Taicang Lu Hongnian jinghui – Lu Hongnian from Caicang, painted with respect’ where we also find two red artist seals. Another artist seal is at the lower left and the backside of the scroll bears additional Chinese inscription as well as remarks by the collector in German such as the title (=translated Good Samaritan).

Condition: Good condition, few moldy stains – mainly to the mount.

基督教主題：在山水之間，我們看到一
個“善良的撒瑪利亞人”照顧一個疲憊的
徒步旅行者。一頭驢好奇的看著他們，兩
外兩個路人自顧遠走。畫面右下角寫著“
太倉陸鴻年敬繪”以及藝術家鈴印。左下
方也有一個藝術家印章。卷軸背面寫著《
慈愛的撒馬利亞人》及“陸鴻年”。
