Silk and velvet with Kesi weaving, silk and gold threads, linen back and top. China, 18th century Qing Dynasty

This long tapestry is executed in Kesi technique and shows a highly appealing decoration with bats and lotuses as well as archaic borders. Most unusual is the material which includes velvet as the dark brown background framing the Kesi weavings. Collector’s numbering and remarks (= translated China, velvet, 18th century) on label at the backside.
