Oscar F. Bluemner (1867-1938) Inlet with Boat watercolor and graphite on paper, 5 x 7, monogrammed and inscribed lower center, excellent condition. Bluemner evolved from impressionism and urban subject in the manner of known American artist Maurice Prendergast, to a geometric style of Cubism and Futurism. His work was well received by the critics, especially when he was endorsed and promoted by Alfred Stieglitz who sponsored Bluemner's first American exhibition. Studied: Royal Academy of Design, Berlin, early 1880s. Exhibited: Armory Show, NYC; Royal Academy, Berlin; Armory Show, NYC, 1913; Forum Exhibition of Modern American Painters; Bourgeois Gallery, NYC; Whitney Museum of Art; Won competition in 1900 for the design of the courthouse in Bronx, NY.
